The best time to have your chimney serviced is during the warmer months:
– Avoid long waits and extra charges during winter. 
– Keep your chimney clean all throughout the year 
– Avoid respiratory problems due to soot falling down after winter. 

The National Safety Council and local fire services all recommend that chimneys be swept thoroughly at least once or twice a year.​

Solution – If a fire hasn’t been lit for a while, the air up the chimney can get cold. Cold air is heavy and if the flue isn’t heated quickly enough, the cold air will force the smoke back into the room. Initially, just burn newspaper as this will create a lot of heat quickly and will move the air upwards.

Depending on the size and condition of the flue and fireplace, work should be completed within the hour for a standard two-story open fireplace and flue.

Don’t light a fire 24 hours before the chimney is swept. Please remove any objects on or around the fireplace. Remove any waste and ash from your appliance

The chimney liner’s major purpose, however, is to protect the flammable parts of the house, including the chimney, from heat and corrosion. It also minimises the risk of the masonry crumbling or cracking.
